Tyrine’s Murder Mystery

My sister’s friend from the Bay Area asked me to design her daughter’s birthday party invites. They decided on a Murder Mystery theme, hints the visual. I love kids and I wish I was attending this birthday party cause it sounds really cute. Anywho I hope you have an amazing 13th birthday Tyrine! Make sure you murder your mom for asking me to design this invite for you :) jk. don’t do that.

Flyer

I got to redesign these flyers for 2012. This flyer is actually a tri fold brochure but displayed is only the inside. I really love working on things like this because I get to organize content in a way that it is easier for people to read. What do you think about before and after? Was I successful?

2012 GPDT Chua Vien Giac Trai Chu Nien

My friends at VG asked me to design the logo for their annual camp. This is what I originally came up with. I think it has a good balance between what their logos traditionally looked like and something new. Overall it was quick and fun to produce.

Livia is a Senior

My little sister is graduating this year! Instead of sending out the same o’ plane jane graduation announcements everyone buys from the school, I decided to customize Livia’s and make it fun and girly. Something different, out of the ordinary so people receiving it will want to keep it instead of tossing it in a pile of junk. (hopefully) - Anywho, everything was designed, edited, printed, even hand cut by me. Her senior pictures were taken at The Getty Villa in Malibu, CA when my sisters and I were on vacation (winter 2011). The graduation invite was inspired by Livia’s dress and patterns throughout her senior photos. Livia decided to have a joint graduation party with her friend Tina so I customized their party flier/circles. Overall, it’s very fun, exciting, and catches people’s attention. I had a lot of fun designing this cause obviously I had a hundred precent freedom. I think the simplicity of the design is very me and I think people can tell I designed it without me having to slap my logo on there. Congratulations little sis! You made it through high school! You’re going to have a blast in college! Wish I was there to watch you grow up. I love you!

2005 Year of Language Calendar
I recently googled myself and this piece of art came up. I did it in 2005 and I still really like it because it reminds me of how far I’ve come as an artist / designer. I think I was a Junior in High School when I decided to enter this language calendar competition. I remember when our spanish teacher Mrs. Chavez announced the competition everyone was too cool to do it. It was optional so I thought I’d do it for fun since I’ve always liked art. I then learned that it was a competition among different schools in Oklahoma so that made me nervous. I think I asked my teacher for some inspiration and ideas to start cause I was scared. I still remember sitting on the couch watching tv and drawing buildings off the top of my head. I never had a desk so I always did homework on a binder on the couch, watching Friends every night. I didn’t know of google at the time so I referenced books and my imagination. The final piece was colored with color pencils and dye cut out - then I printed a page with names of different countries with different languages and elmer’s glued it to the back of the drawing. The back part makes me laugh so hard cause I used some terrible fonts thinking it was cool. haha! I ended up being the only one turning something in from Mustang High School. At least from what I remember. Surprisingly I was told I won first place and there was some dinner ceremony to present our prizes at Spaghetti Warehouse in Bricktown, Oklahoma. My art was featured on the cover of the 2005 Year of Language Calendar and sold to language teachers all over Oklahoma. I was told it was on some billboard somewhere, but I never saw it so I don’t believe it. My art was also inside the calendar and featured on the month of September. I wish it was October cause that’s my birthday but whatever. After all this, my friend told me they saw it displayed at The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in Edmond Oklahoma. I never saw this piece again and I’m sure they trashed it. Oh well. All I have are good memories of it. :)
